Sunny Friday in a red car

My son, he's sixteen, just passed his apprentice driver's permit.
With the apprentice one he can only drive accompanied by an adult
who owns a regular permit.
We showed up at the SAAQ office, around 2:30 and stood in line for
20 minutes before we could reach the accueuil counter. Then we sat there
and waited....
After spending an hour watching the J116s, A64s and other fantastic numbers
scrolling by on the electronic board, he finally got his piece of paper.
We walked back to the parking as I handed him the keys to my car,
(it's a manual) and told him " there you go, now you drive me around"!!

He had only driven the car in parking lots shifting up to third gear,
but that was it.
He started getting a bit nervous. I could feel it by the tone of his voice,
and he mumbled something like:
"I'll use the side streets.I'm not used to drive on busy boulevards."

"Fine" I said. "Whatever feels comfortable.I don't want you to feel
pressured to rush into traffic on the first day".Maybe in your
Mom's car!!! I thought
(what a macho bastard!!!)

So he put it in first gear and off we went.He was a bit shaky
on the first couple of shifts and he choked it a few times at stop
signs when he had another car tailing him but apart from that....
It was a pretty smooth first ride.

He's gonna be an excellent driver.
Just like his Dad!!!!
Oh yeah, and his Mom!!
